Job Description:
The cardiology department is looking to recruit a consultant cardiologist who specializes in advanced cardiac imaging as part of the cardiac services team. The successful incumbent will join a team of highly qualified consultants as part of a newly established tertiary cardiac center. This particular post is in advanced cardiac imaging.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Inpatient Care
- Management of cardiology inpatients, including daily ward rounds to review patients under you care.
- Provide cardiology input for consultations from other specialties
- Take part in out of hours on-call rota, covering non-invasive emergencies
- Provide input as part of the multi-disciplinary team in the management of patients referred from external centers.
Outpatient Care
- Integral role in the cardiology outpatient department in the assessment, diagnosis and management of cardiac patients.
- Liaise with other sub-specialist colleagues to provide optimal multi-disciplinary patient care.
Cardiac Imaging
- Lead role in the cardiac imaging department
- Supervise and mentor echo technicians and junior cardiology staff. Sign off echocardiography reports to ensure quality control.
- Develop a stress echo service; dobutamine and exercise stress
- Develop and maintain the trans-esophageal echo service
- Gain accreditation in reporting cardiac CT coronary angiography and supervise dedicated cardiac CT lists (we will arrange relevant training)
- Develop a cardiac MRI service (if trained in cardiac MRI)
Continuous personal development and education
- Demonstrate a commitment to personal professional development and continuous education; including achieving mandatory CME points criteria.
- As part of the consultant body, contribute in the planning and execution in the development and continuous improvement of the cardiology department.
- Take part in regular multi-disciplinary team meetings.
- Take part in the weekly educational meeting.
- Contribute to the teaching and training of junior medical staff and helping in their personal career development.
- Present in conferences and educational meetings organized by the cardiac department.
Patient and Caregiver Education
- Explain in simple terms the management plan including findings, planned investigations, diagnosis to the patient and care giver, and provide educational materials if required.
Education and Qualifications:
- Valid qualification as a consultant cardiologist such as CCT from the UK, Board Certified from the USA or similar qualification from country of current practice.
- Current valid license to practice.
- Valid SCFHS license and valid BCLS certification
Experience and Skills
Essential
- Experience as consultant cardiologist for 5 years specializing in advanced cardiac imaging
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Proactive approach to quality control and service improvement
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Fluent in English
Desirable
- Experience as consultant in a tertiary cardiac center
- Research and publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Evidence of service development, clinical audit, and risk management.
- Able to speak or understand Arabic

- Demonstrated teaching skills in respect of junior medical staff, other staff, patients and their families.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with all staff, patients and families.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural differences.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work effectively within a service and organisation committed to achieving accreditation.
